5 Simple Kitchen Organization Ideas You Can Apply

The kitchen is one of the most used areas in the home. In some homes, the kitchen is the central location for family meals, kids doing homework and art projects, and for housewives to enjoy cups of coffee. With all these buzz of activities sometimes the kitchen can get a little disorganized. The trick to organizing a kitchen is simply constant tidying up paired with some great kitchen organization ideas and suggestions. The following suggestions of kitchen organization products will help you make your kitchen look like out of a decor magazine.

Kids Organizer Bins

The kitchen sink is one area that tends to get cluttered with sponges and brushes and bottle of hand soap. What you can do is to look for pretty trays or small containers where you can place your brushes and sponges. Your hand soap will look better in a clear glass dispenser. All these items can be purchased from your home improvement stores or even at flea markets. These will give your kitchen sink a more uncluttered and unified look. The same can be done with your dishwashing liquid. Stored in glass bottles, they look more attractive and can be stored outside instead of under your sink.

Kids Organizer Bins

Have you seen photos of chefs in their kitchens and how they have all those pots and pans hanging about? Well, you can do the same too. You don't need a large area to do this; a small corner will do just fine. All you need to do is install a handrail and then use several S-hooks to hang your pots and pans. Your kitchen will look more attractive.

If the area near your stove is littered with bottles of oil, salt and pepper mills, little bottles of condiments and spices, then you can place all these small items onto a tray. A simple paperboard tray works as well as a shallow baking tray. This way, everything will be in one organized tray. Spills will be easier to clean too.

When storing spices and condiments, you could try storing them all in glass jars or canning jars. These make them look uniformed compared to storing them in their actual packaging. You can even identify the spices or condiments easily. These jars arranged in your cabinet or pantry will look fantastic.

If you are doing your bit for the environment and have a corner where you stack all your paper, glass, aluminum and wastes, you can make this place look more attractive with a recycling corner. Use attractive containers or baskets for your rubbish and label these containers. These will look more attractive than a heap of garbage in your kitchen.

These simple ways of organizing your kitchen will help make it more attractive.

  • Simple Storage Ideas For Kids' Rooms

When it comes to children's bedrooms and playrooms, it's vital to put the "fun" in "functionality." Finding creative solutions to storage needs helps you cut down on clutter in the room while keeping things light and playful. From toys to clothes, here are some unique ideas for storing the many items your child will accumulate as he or she grows up:

    Kids Organizer Bins

    Trellises

    Kids Organizer Bins

While a trellis is normally reserved for the garden or patio, there's no reason you can't put one to good use in a child's bedroom or playroom. A regular garden trellis supplemented with pegs makes an attractive display for a tweenage girl's hat, purse or handbag collection. Planks of wood can also be suspended horizontally atop the pegs to create a fun and accessible storage space for dolls, stuffed animals, toy trucks or just about anything that will fit.

    Cubbyholes and Repurposed Bookshelves

If you want to create storage spaces of various sizes to house your child's toys and books, stacking up some wooden cubbyholes with differing dimensions gives you options and flexibility. You can keep heavier, bulkier toys in the bottom cubbyholes and lighter items up top. Just make sure not to stack them so high your child can't reach his or her favorite things, or you won't get a moment's peace during playtime.

Remember, too, that bookshelves don't have to be just for books. You can place storage baskets and bins on the various shelves to store smaller toys and knickknacks. If you need to make the most of limited space, this type of solution works wonders.

    Handcrafted Toy Boxes

Toy boxes are a mainstay of playrooms the world over, but you don't have to settle for the banality of the standard designs stocked by your local home furnishings outlet. If you've gone for a bold design in the room and need a specialized toy box to match the theme, or if you just want to add a personalized flair to your furnishings, a custom-made toy box can make all the difference.

Boutique furniture stores, local artisans and carpenters, and specialty retailers are the best places to find handcrafted items like toy boxes. If you deal directly with a producer, you can even incorporate your own unique ideas into the design. While this is a more expensive option, it will add an unmistakable touch of individuality to your child's favorite room.

Encourage Your Child's Creativity With the Right Tools

Drawing, coloring, and using water paints to create artwork that you can proudly display on the refrigerator has long been a favorite past time of children. While they enjoy themselves, they can learn about color, texture, and dimension as their artistic skills grow. You can encourage your child to express inner creativity by providing the tools necessary to do their best.

    Kids Organizer Bins

The first thing that they will need to create great works of art is a hard, flat surface where they can sit comfortably while they let their mind soar. There are many types of furniture available on the market for all ages that you can get to create your child's own special place to work. You can choose from a simple furniture set to an elaborate work station that includes all types of accessories for the artist, or anything in between.

    Kids Organizer Bins

If you opt for an inexpensive, basic set then you probably will not have storage space included. Then you will need to provide shelves and/or baskets that will hold the tools they need to create.

You will want to choose furniture that has a surface that will prevent staining from paints, markers, or from clay. You want to encourage your child to try a variety of different artistic skills and not have to discourage them from using the furniture to do so.

Some of these furniture sets that are designed for the artist have so many accessories, you may not even know what half of them are for. Some have recessed paint cups as well as tool and brush trays. Shelves, paper bins, drying racks, paper towel holders, and more are often included in one work station.

The second thing you will need to bring out the artist in your child are the tools to create the artwork. That could be markers, paints, crayons, paper, and much, much more. Although you will find that there are some work centers that contain all of the furniture as well as the tools, it may be better to choose them separately. There is as big of a variety in colors and markers as there is in furniture to sit on while you work.

Keep the choices simple so that your child will have more versatility in using them. For instance, a stamp of a butterfly is going to produce a butterfly every time. But a pink glitter crayon will inspire her to draw a butterfly the way she imagines it to be.

Art work should be the result of imagination and creativity that your child expresses in the work she does. Start with tools that are age appropriate but don't hesitate to move up to the next level if she masters them quickly. Not all children reach the same level of artistry at the same age and a child that is held back will become bored quickly. Don't move ahead to toxic materials or those that will leave permanent marks if your child isn't careful and takes precautions as needed.

Ten Tips For Tackling Your Littered Laundry Room

    1) Organize your space by zones. Organizing by zones means having items that serve a similar purpose grouped together. So for instance, all your washing and cleaning supplies should be grouped and located near the washer and dryer, and all your light bulbs, batteries, and utility items should be together in the same area of the laundry room. This may seem like a no-brainer, but we often place our items according to the space where they fit, rather than adjusting the space to fit our items.

    Kids Organizer Bins

    2) Once you've organized your items into zones, add products to help organize the items more efficiently in that space. For instance, if you have a tall shelf to accommodate your laundry detergents and bleach, then add a stackable shelf or hanging basket on the shelf next to them to add an extra layer of storage for your shorter laundry items like stain sticks and dryer sheet boxes.

    Kids Organizer Bins

    3) Because space in the laundry room is often limited, make sure you only have items that belong here. Resist using the cupboards to store your seldom used crock pot or painting supplies.

    4) If you're tired of constantly opening your cabinets to get out and put back your laundry supplies, consider purchasing a slim rolling cart. They can roll between machines, or between the machines and the wall, so you can easily access your most frequently used supplies rather than constantly opening and closing cabinet doors.

    5) Or, if you like having your supplies stored on the shelves out of reach of the kids, consider taking off the cabinet doors so you have easier access but can still store items safely.

    6) If you have open wire shelving and dislike how cluttered things look, purchase a matching set of bins that you can store like items in together. You'll appreciate the ease of being able to lift down all your laundry items at once, or being able to keep that stack of towels and rags from constantly toppling over. If possible, purchase plastic bins so that spills and dirt accumulating in the bins can be easily cleaned up.

    7) Regardless of whether you have closed cabinets or open shelving, I would recommend getting some bins to hold smaller items that don't stay organized well. Examples are batteries; light bulbs; and small tools like scissors, screwdrivers, and pliers. Have one bin exclusively for broken, odd, or misplaced items like the key that you don't know what it opens, or the button that fell off someone's clothing.

    8) Once you have items organized the way you like, label the shelves or the bins so that other people using the space can retrieve and replace items to the right spot.

    9) If you laundry room is the exit and entry space of your home, think about hanging a shoe pocket organizer to hold all the in and out items your family needs like cell phones, key rings, sunscreen, bug spray, hats and gloves, etc.

    10) To solve the dilemma of the disappearing socks, try tying a mesh lingerie bag by the door knob of each person's closet. When they take off their socks, they can put them into this mesh bag, so that it can be zipped up and go in the washer and the dryer as is, and the socks will be easier to pair again.

Bedroom Closet Organization - Making the Most of Your Closet Space

Bedroom closets are notoriously difficult to keep under control.  This is because the bedroom closet is in constant use, with items coming in and out frequently.  Without a good system in place, bedroom closet organization can quickly fall by the wayside.

    Kids Organizer Bins

It becomes even more difficult when you consider that most of us have a bunch of items that we never wear clogging up our closets.  Whether these items were received as gifts, bought on sale somewhere, or just don't fit anymore, this stuff takes up valuable closet space that could be better used for items that we actually use.

    Kids Organizer Bins

The result of this log-jam of stuff is one great big cluttered mess!  Staying on top of bedroom closet organization requires a functional closet organizer system that will provide you with the tools you need to make it easy to organize and store your clothes.

Here's how to get started on your way to a clutter-free, well-organized closet.

    Clean Up Your Room

If your bedroom is a mess, you'll have to bit the bullet and overhaul the entire room.  It's difficult to keep a closet organized if you can't walk through the rest of your room!  At the very least, put like items together and get clutter out of the way.  This way you won't be tempted to just toss the mess in the closet.  It doesn't hurt to clear out cobwebs, dust, and vacuum while you're at it.

Get Rid of What Doesn't Fit

Now that you're ready to tackle the closet, start by getting rid of clothing that doesn't fit.  Countless people spend wasted space and mental energy hanging on to too-small clothes for that 'someday' when they will finally fit.  Do yourself a favor - get rid of these items!  If you need the money, you can even earn a little extra cash by selling items on eBay, at a consignment shop, or on Craigslist.  In order to avoid the temptation to hang on to this stuff, it's sometimes better to just give things away - quickly.  Give stuff to friends, donate to your local thrift shop, or post items for free on Craigslist.  As they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure.

    Put Away Out-of-Season Clothes

There's no use in having a bunch of heavy winter clothes taking up space in your closet in the middle of summer (or vice versa).  Store your out-of-season items under the bed, in plastic storage bins, or in garment bags.  Make sure to protect wool items from pests by filling old trouser socks and nylons with cedar chips.  A great way to save money on cedar chips is to buy inexpensive cedar pet bedding at your local pet supply store.  Be sure to replace the cedar chips every month or so.

    Complete the Purge

Finally, get rid of anything you haven't worn in the past year.  If you haven't worn it in more than one season, chances are you never will.  Keep the clutter from piling up again by choosing fewer, better quality items - resist the temptation to buy something just because it's on sale.  If it hangs in your closet without ever being worn, it means wasted money and wasted space.  Also, whenever you buy (or acquire) something new, get rid of something else.

Get rid of anything that doesn't make you look and feel your best.  Tight, uncomfortable, frumpy, or ill-fitting clothing must go.  Also, gather up items that need minor mending, like a hem or a missing button, and plan to get these repairs made within a week.

Items You Can't Bear to Part With?

After you've purged as much as possible, try this tip for any items that you just can't stand to get rid of.  Put the items back in your closet on a hanger facing the opposite direction from the rest of your clothes.  As you wear these items, turn the hangers around to match the rest of your clothes when you put them back in your closet.  After six months to a year, you'll be able to tell by the backwards-facing hangers what hasn't been worn.  Get rid of anything that's been sitting there all year without being worn.

    Customize Your Bedroom Closet

Now it's time to take stock of your closet storage space.  The typical (and least efficient) design of a bedroom closet is one clothes rod with a shelf above it.  To customize your closet space, take inventory of your wardrobe.  Do you have lots of shirts?  Then double closet rods can maximize efficient us of closet space.  Do you have more shoes than anything else?  Then a shoe organizer might help you beat the clutter.  You can also use inexpensive racks and shelving systems to keep folded clothes neatly organized.

For really efficient use of your closet space, I recommend the Elfa® bedroom closet organization systems available from the Container Store.  If you contact the Container Store and provide your closet measurements and answer a few questions about your storage needs, they'll design a custom closet organizer tailored just for you.  I faced the challenge of squeezing clothing and toys for three children in a single closet.  I contacted the Container Store for a customized bedroom closet organizer and I couldn't be happier with the result.

    Setting Up Your Organizational System

Now that you've whittled down your wardrobe to only the items you love and actually use, and now that you've customized your closet organizer to match your needs, you're ready to put your organization system into place.

    Shoe Storage

For shoe storage, clear plastic shoe boxes that can be labeled are a good investment.  Shoes can be categorized by season and purpose.  To simplify shoe storage, store in-season and frequently worn pairs within easy reach; the rest can be put away for the season, or stacked on the infrequently used top shelf of the closet.

Hang similar items together and categorize them by color.  This will simplify your morning routine.  For example, hang shirts together (don't intersperse them with skirts and trousers), and organize them by color.

Buy tie hangers for ties, belts, scarves, and similar items.  As with your general wardrobe, purge these from time to time, and get rid of items that are worn out, stained, or that you just don't use.

Conserve space for hanging clothes by using the same type of hangers for everything - uniformity and systematization saves space.  Hang shirts and jackets facing the same way so that they 'nest' against each other.  Use clear plastic skirt hangers for slacks and trousers.

If you have an unused bedroom in your home, you can turn it into a walk in closet by installing shelving and closet rods around the perimeter of the room.  You can also use rolling carts and hanging rods if you want to avoid installing hardware.  To maximize the utility of your new dressing room, include a comfortable sitting chair for putting on your shoes and a full-length mirror to give yourself a quick appraisal before heading out the door.

You can also save money and limit clutter by using what's available around the house to help organize your closet inexpensively.  Unused bookshelves, plastic bins, and carts are all good options for stacking, folding, and storing clothes.  The only limit is your creativity and imagination.

These bedroom closet organization tips have worked wonders for making my life saner, more organized, and easier to manage.  If you take the time to overhaul your closet, they're sure to do the same for you!

    Chrome Shelving Solutions

Shelving is used in homes for all different reasons - displaying collectables, organizing bathroom essentials, housing kitchen gadgets, and more. A practical solution is chrome shelving, which is a durable, customizable, stylish, and versatile way to serve any storage needs. This type of shelving can be used in any room of the house, and makes the home more functional and attractive.

    Kids Organizer Bins

Chrome is a metal that is extremely durable and strong. Shelves made out of chrome will last a long time, which makes them a good investment. This type of shelving will not damage easily, so they can withstand even the roughest or most irregularly shaped household items. Because they are strong, chrome shelves will not bend or break under pressure and can hold heavy objects over a long period of time.

    Kids Organizer Bins

Shelves made out of chrome are easily customizable because they are modular. This means their parts are made with the same dimensions so they are interchangeable. A shelving unit can be made to fit a space of any size or shape. If a collection grows or the shelves change location, then they are easy to modify - add more pieces to create more room, or change the layout to accommodate different items.

Chrome is one of the most commonly used materials in interior design. It has a universal look that lends itself to many different styles. It is easy to clean, which is appealing to families with busy lives. The open wire design allows for optimal visibility and minimal dust collection - again, a bonus for adults and children on the go.

These shelving units are so versatile that they can be used in any room of the house to store anything. In the kitchen, they can be used as an alternative to a pantry or to raise the food and water bowls of large dogs. They can be used in the bathroom to store towels or other shower supplies. In the basement, kids' toys can be put into bins that are organized on chrome shelves. Sports equipment or tools in the garage can be stored by this type of shelving as well.

Proper organization is important to a healthy, happy lifestyle because it promotes physical and mental well-being. Chrome shelving separates a disorderly house from an organized home. This product is easy to assemble and adapts to any space, making it the ideal custom storage solution to any organizational challenge in the home.

Frugal Families: Clothing Your Kids For Less

Keeping a reasonable budget for clothing doesn't mean that your frugal family has to live with outdated, out of style and worn out clothing. Frugal families use several tips and techniques to keep their kids stylishly dressed without breaking their budgets.

    Kids Organizer Bins

    1) School and play clothes. My boys play hard outside. They are dirt magnets and we joke that their play jeans are "blessed" (holey versus holy). I insist they change into their 'play' clothes when they get home from school and decide to go outside. Play clothes are any article of clothing that has seen better days, is still serviceable but isn't acceptable for most things outside of the backyard. Whereas, school clothes are meant for school and/or other events and locations that I want them to appear with clean, unstained and publicly presentable attire. We save a lot of money by making sure we don't have to go out and replace good clothing that they destroyed in backyard play.

    Kids Organizer Bins

    2) Clothing bins for future wears. We have bins for clothing in the attic. The bins are labeled by the size of the clothing inside. We have three boys so I know the clothing is all for the same sex but if you have girls and boys, you might want to label them along the lines of "girls size 8" and "boys size 10". I don't bother to sort clothes by seasons, just sizes. This makes it easy to find replacement clothing as the children outgrow what they have. If my 14 year old outgrows something, the hand-me-downs go into the proper sized bin for the other two kids and we 'shop' in the next sized bin (see next paragraph).

I also keep clothing bins for larger sized clothing I have either been given or have found at tag sales, thrift-stores or killer department store sales. One year I found season-end deals on coats and shirts that I couldn't pass up (Columbia winter coats marked down nearly 80%. I bought four of them based on anticipated growth for the next two winters and then stored them in the larger sized bins). Don't pass up fantastic deals simply because, "My child isn't that big yet." I guarantee you that your child will be that size when you can't find anything at a great price and in the long run, you'll spend more.

If you don't have room for bins, do give up! Store clothes in bags under beds, in the bottom of closets (or tops of closets), under the couch or "in plain sight" in a chest designed to look like a table. Whatever you can store today for later is like putting money in the bank and if you were trying to find places to store cash, you'd get creative.

    3) Never refuse hand-me-downs or pass-along clothes. I have several friends who have an older boy and a younger girl. They know they can pass along their boy clothes to me. I sort through the clothes and place them in the appropriately sized bin so we can 'shop' for clothes down the road (if no one is currently in that size or we're in the wrong season). Sometimes the clothes have seen better days and then they become camping/play clothes. Sometimes I know that there will be clothing that the kids can't or won't wear but are still great. I'll either ask if they should be returned or if it's okay to pass them on or donate. The other thing is that so many kids grow so quickly that they outgrow clothing before they outwear the clothing. Some pass-along or hand-me-downs look nearly as good as when they were bought!

    4) Take care of the clothing. This is especially true if you have more than one child or plan to have more. Take care to pre-treat spots (fels naptha soap is a great laundry bar that gets out serious dirt and there are other commercial spot treaters), launder clothing according to it's label so it's not ruined and store it properly so you'll have them for your other children. Make sure you store clothing in clean bins that will keep out bugs and rodents and moisture.

    5) Shopping the deals. This goes backs and touches upon the idea presented with the bins. I always keep an eye out for great deals on our children's clothing. With three boys, I always know that sooner or later, a boy will fit into some size. When they were younger, I could even get great deals on sneakers by watching for sales (brand-name high-quality children shoes for less than /pair sometimes) and stashing the sneakers in the shoe bin for later use as they outgrew their current pairs.

I shop season-end clearance sales and always peruse the 80% off racks when I'm in a store. Two of my boys have a preference for certain clothing and even with that, I have never paid over .00 for their shirts. We were at some outlet stores last winter and the sock/underwear outlet had a sale on socks, buy two packages of socks and get one free. That was a savings of about . I stocked up and bought ahead on sizes knowing that I wasn't always at the outlet and I never managed to find sock sales. It also saved me the time and gas of running out and doing the 40-mile round-trip to the nearest clothing store when they needed larger socks.

I always shop all of the sizes at the thrift stores. Knowing that my boys are rapidly growing, I usually don't shop just their current sizes. I make sure to check out all of the sizes knowing that I can put any larger sizes into the bins for future needs. Again, brand new jeans, shirts and shoes from the thrift stores have made their way into the bins for a huge savings.

Clothing your children doesn't have to eat up hundreds or even thousands of dollars every year. With a bit of planning, a careful eye when shopping and a bit of storage (even if it's creative storage), you can be a frugal family when it comes to clothing your children for less.

The Best Way To Enhance Your Organization's Image

Most experts will agree that a bad image will totally destroy a company's chances of doing well. Many people have also said that a good image can dramatically increase a business's chance of succeeding. Unfortunately, this means that if a business makes a great product and gives great service at a great price, the business can still fail due to a poor image.

    Kids Organizer Bins

In this article I'll talk about some things you can do to help increase your business's image. More specifically, I will go over what you can do to your office to make it quietly improve the way people view you and your company. After you read this entire article, you will be able to take the necessary steps to help your organization make more money.

    Kids Organizer Bins

Improving your waiting room furniture may be one of the best ways to enhance your image. You'll find that in many organizations, the customers and prospective customers will spend most of their time in the waiting room. They will be spending it without any of your employees actively selling or presenting to them. This will give them time to form an impression of you and your business.

Make certain that you make a great impression by placing enjoyable waiting room furniture in the reception area. You'll find that elegant, classy, and comfortable seating gives people a positive feeling towards the company providing it. You'll find that the service process and even the sale will be easier to do later. When a customer has been comfortably waiting for service they are less agitated than the customer that has been uncomfortable while waiting.

When you're searching for good waiting room furniture, you will want to make sure it is visually appealing. Choose dark colors that will not get dirty easy. This will ensure that your furniture looks good even when you don't have time to clean it on a daily basis.

Another thing you will want to do is to make sure all of your furniture is uniform. Most people find that it is easiest to simply buy all the furniture at once and as a set. When you buy items as a set you will ensure that all of them match well with each other. When the furniture does not match, you run the risk of looking inconsistent. Nobody wants to do business with a company that lacks consistency.

Trailer Decor - 5 Ways to Use Hallway Space to Enhance Your Home

If you live in a trailer, you probably have many items you'd like to display or store that don't need a lot of space, but you STILL have no place to put them. We have solutions!

    Kids Organizer Bins

Hallways! Oh my gosh, have you seen the tunnels they put alongside the bedrooms in a trailer house with no visible access to living human existence? Well lose the domination and let's get back to living. There are ways to use those vast dark mines of existence with a polish unknown to house dwellers. We have pizazz!

    Kids Organizer Bins

Kids art - Young parents often find themselves using a trailer as their homestead of choice when children are small, and there's truly no place to hang kids art, kids pictures, and kids "Clutter" so you trash it, store it in a box, or attempt to shove it all under the kids' bed. STOP already!

Frame it and hang it on the wall. Much better solution and it doesn't take a massive huge space. An easy way is get a poster size Plexiglas frame for each kid - put their stuff in there and arrange it for easy viewing then hang each one in a segment of wall space along the hall.

Shelve it - NARROW shelving along the side of the hall makes for easy storage of books, small NON-breakable treasures (baskets and bins of toys), and other hall necessities. These can even be located under the aforementioned art display frames for a great hallway décor. My favorite width of shelving is about 4 ½ inches. It's easy to make yourself in 30 inch widths, with a light paneling or plywood back, and you can paint three to five units different colors for each kid, or stain to match your traditional hallway-dark paneling.

Hook something - Run a 1 X 4 along the wall at chair rail height and again at shoulder height and place pegs along the railings. You can then attach firmly to the wall with screws into the studs and hang almost anything on them. Hand bags, carry alls, library bags, coats, jackets, tennis shoes sports equipment, brief cases, back packs, laundry, or whatever your heart desires. Try hanging your hats there too...

Art/Photo Gallery - Similar to the first idea, this one springs up from being a family girl with a ton of photo albums. Just frame a collage of photos and hang them in the hallway. Either single frames or in multiples, arrange them on the wall with a few flowers or a wall ornament or two and you'll find people stopping in the hall to check out the photos. Or simply a collection of a few treasured pieces of wall art will capture attention.

Track Lighting - Replace the single bulb in the middle of the hall with a long track of special lighting you can aim to enhance your choice of wall art. This increases your likelihood of using the hallway for something other than passage and maximizes your ability to use it. The best part is, you can set the level of lighting you prefer and nobody minds.

Organizing Tips to Tame the Toy Room

If you've got kids, you've got toys. Tired of tripping over dolls, trucks, and blocks? Here are some tips on how to organize the toys so that they don't take over your home.

    Kids Organizer Bins

Most parents admit that their kids have too many toys, so the first step is to pare down. When purging toys, divide and conquer by sorting into 3 piles:

    Kids Organizer Bins

    1. Damaged: toys that are broken or missing parts (these will be tossed)
    2. Outcasts: toys that the kids have outgrown or never really played with in the first place (these will be sent to charity)

    3. Favorites: toys that are enjoyed on a regular basis (these stay)

When taking toys to charity, get your children involved. Once they see the value in giving to those less fortunate, they may be more willing to let go.

    Toy Storage Tips:

o Having too many toys in the playroom overwhelms kids just as much as parents. You can cut down on excess toys by rotating them. Get a large plastic storage container, label it 'toy library' and place a selection of toys inside it. Put the lid on the container and store it in an out-of-the way place for several months. Every so often, bring out the toy library and exchange the stored toys for other toys that the kids are bored with. The old toys will seem new again and engage the child's interest.

o Organize the toy room in zones: The dress-up zone, the dolls zone, the play kitchen zone, the craft zone, the building block zone, etc. This is the model used to keep kindergarten classrooms organized.

o When it comes to storing toys, traditional wooden toy chests are not very useful. Most kids empty them out and climb in or small toys get all tangled up, damaged and forgotten.

o Use small, clear, open plastic bins (no lids) on shelves and sort toys into similar categories to make finding and tidying up a breeze. Label them with pictures if your child is too young to read. Small, lightweight containers with handles are easier to pull off the shelf.

o Make sure shelves are low (no more than 3 shelves high) so kids can reach their favorite toys. Secure shelving to the wall with brackets to avoid tipping.

o For older children, use plastic freezer bags that zip up to keep small game pieces or puzzle pieces together. (Small children may put the bags over their heads, which could pose a hazard).

o Use hooks or clothing trees to hang dress-up clothes.

o A colourful tackle box with dividers is an ideal way to store small doll accessories on the top and favorite Barbie's on the bottom. Or, use it for Lego kits. Its portability is an added bonus when visiting grandparents or sleeping over at a friend's house.

o Children's books usually don't have spines, so placing them on a bookshelf makes locating favorite books difficult. Solve this problem by storing books in plastic bins with the title of the books facing front.

Tips to Maintain a Tidy Toy Room:

o To keep the toy room tidy, have a 15-minute clean-up time everyday and explain to kids that the alternative is spending a whole Saturday cleaning up. Use a timer and put on some of their favorite music to add an element of novelty.

o Do your part to cut down on toy clutter. Loot bags brought home from birthday parties are usually big clutter culprits. For your child's birthday parties, instead of handing out dollar store items that will end up on the floor, start a trend by giving . Gift cards from movie rental or book stores.

o When purchasing toys, choose those that stimulate imagination and creativity so children don't lose interest. Examples: black board, art supplies and paper, instruments, dress-up clothes.

o Request that family members and friends give your children the gift of an experience instead of a toy. This includes taking them to an amusement park, a movie, a concert, or paying for some music or sports lessons.

Take the time to teach your children how to keep their toys organized and the whole family will enjoy the benefits for years to come.
