It happens to all of us. We move into the new home and are determined that everything will have a place and each thing will be in that place. As you unpack you stick to the program, putting things exactly where they belong. Every now and then you catch something in a wrong place and put it back.
Then a few more weeks go by. Now a few more things have gotten out of their designated space and you have only managed to return a few of them to their original location. Your life is getting back to normal, you are refocusing on your workload and the little details are getting less attention.

A few months later, there are stacks of mail, bills, and other random papers on the counter. More than a few things are out of place and some areas are even starting to see the threat of 'clutter' building up. This is the reality of a home. No matter how hard you try, things are going to get out of their place. But if there are a lot of small items - arts and crafts items, clothing accessories, etc, you need to be able to keep track of them once they are in the chest or you will spend a lot of your time digging through and looking for them.
Purchase small plastic bins that will fit inside the chest or large plastic Ziploc bags that can be used to sort and organize things before they go into the storage chest. You should always use clear plastic bags and bins for this kind of sorting because it will make it a lot easier to quickly spot what you are looking through the clear bag.
You can even take the organization one step furniture by finding a chest that suits the theme of what is inside. For example, a sporting goods storage chest could have a sports scene on it, and arts and crafts chest could have a painted country blanket pattern that gives you a clue to what's inside.
